Continuing my theme of women performing military services in American conflicts, this book discusses the 40,000 some women who performed a variety of duties during the Great War. Author Lettie Gavin supplements her narrative with¬†the personal testimonies of women veterans, along with historical photos and letters. The book chapters are thematic (First Women of the Navy, Women Marines, Women of the YMCA, Reconstruction Aides, and so on) so it’s easy to put this book down and come back to it later.
